Lets Nuzlocke with Mirasi! Pokemon Ruby version.
Pokemon Nuzlocke: Ruby version.
I will be playing pokemon ruby in a nuzlocke style. note- this is my first time playing a nuzlocke edition. Also, the reason it says "Burning Ruby" is because I am using a rom which includes gen 4 pokemon.
For those of you who don't know what a Nuzlocke is, it's a set of player-imposed rules that aim to make the game more difficult and emotionally dear for the person doing it.
The basic rules for Nuzlocke are as follows:
1. Player may only catch the very first pokemon that appears in each new area, like Routes, caves, sea.
2. If a Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and cannot be used for the remainder of the game. It must be boxed in the PC or released.
3. You must nickname each Pokemon you catch/obtain. This serves to build an emotional bond with the Pokemon and makes one 'dying' even more emotionally painful for the player.
I will be adhering to these rules mentioned above as I travel through the game and accomplish things. I will add my own personal experience to most pictures, as a way to entertain the people reading along and to also get across how I view the people and pokemon I encounter.

- This question has had me stumped for a while now. I just can't quite work it out, am I a boy, or am I a girl?
- text:
- After some long hard thinking, I came to the conclusion that I was male. I then proceeded to tell the creepy man asking me questions my internet name, as to not give away too much information.
- text:
- after starting my journy, I found myself in a van. I proceeded to walk outside of the van, for fear of... certain dangers that may approach me. After I stepped outside the van, I was greeted by my mother who proceeded to tell me that I was in Littleroot Town, which would be serving as my home town for now.
- text:
- after stepping inside my new house, I proceeded to looking around at everything there was. I noticed a staircase after my mother pointed it out to me, and went upside to set the time on the clock. My mother then came up to tell me that everything downstairs was set up.
- text:
- When I went downstairs, I found my mother screaming enthusiastically at the TV screen. When I walked over to see what was going on, I noticed there was a news report in front of Petalburgh Gym, the Gym which my dad works at. With a sigh if disappointment, my mother explained her thought processes to me and told me that one of dad's friends, Professor Birch was living in town, and that I should go and say hi to him.
- text:
- After rudely intruding into the professor's house, I was greeted by his wife, who told me that they had a daughter who was about the same age as me, and that she hoped we could be friends. I then went upstairs to find their daughter reading some books. I spoke to her, in which she told me the same thing her mother did, and then ran off saying that she had to help her dad catch some pokemon.
- text:
- And so it begins. After stepping outside the professors house, I walk around, investigating the town. I then notice a kid yelling for help, saying that he could hear screams coming from the route. I proceeded into the route to see a man being chased by a wild Poochyena and a bag. He spoke quickly, telling me to look in the bag. From a glance, I knew this pokemon was the one for me.
- text:
- And so, we proceeded to battle the fierce opponent who had come before us. I sent out the man's Mudkip with haste, and commanded it to use Tackle. With an outburst of strength, it charged forward towards the enemy Poochyena with a force. It was clear now that the opposition was weakened, as it attempt to respond with a Growl, however this quick-feeted Mudkip jumped in the nick of time, getting out of range from the attack. I knew that it was now or never. With an overwhelming feeling of courage, I commanded the Mudkip to use Tackle once more. The Mudkip brought on all it's strength, as it attacked the Poochyena, forcing it to faint there in front of us, saving the man.
- text:
- After saving the man, I then discovered that it was professor Birch, the man that my mother had told me to talk to. He took me back to his lab for a cup of tea, and over the drink gave me the Mudkip I had used earlier as a thank-you present for saving him. I decided to name the Mudkip after a good friend of mine, Kzook, who has done many inspirational things in is life. I hope that by naming him after this figure, he too will become a beacon of hope for pokemon everywhere. Professor Birch then went on to tell me that his daughter, May, is out training her pokemon, and asked me to go and train with her.
- text:
- As I started walking on route to find May, I encountered a wild Zigzagoon, that was chewing on some grass. I tried to sneak past the creature, but before I knew it, it attacked! I quickly responded, by sending out Kzook to face the creature in combat.
Kzook's swift feet stole the first move, as it charged towards the opponent with a cry, tackling into it at full force. The Zigzagoon staggered for a bit, as it found its footing and responded with it's own Tackle attack.
Kzook stumbled a bit from the impact, but quickly got back up, brushing the injuries off. It attacked again, using it's Tackle right onto the side of Zigzagoon. The Zigzagoon scowled as it wimpered around. It responded with a Growl, which proceeded to scare Kzook a little bit, who shivered and went into a more defensive pose.
As I looked at the 2, I yelled words of encouragement at Kzook, to help him overcome the fear that was before him. Kzook regained it's confidence, and on my command attacked the Zigzagoon with a full-on Tackle attack, hitting the creature to the ground.
- text:
- After making my way to route 103, I found may, waiting there. I walked up to her and she quickly greeted me. She then realised that I had a pokemon and challenged me to a battle to get a feeling for what it was like.
May's Treecko stole the first move, as it swiftly attacked Kzook with a Scratch. However, Kzook refused to take this, as he brushed the attack off, and charged back at Treecko, hitting it with a fully-powered Tackle.
Treecko seemed startled from the attack, as it jumped back and charged, hitting Kzook with another Scratch attack. Kzook wimpered back up, as he glared at the enemy Treecko, charging at it with a Tackle attack. The enemy Treecko looked injured as it lifted itself slowly off of the ground.
Within a flash, the Treecko was back up, and attacked Kzook with yet another Scratch. Kzook was clearly at the edge of its limits here. He got up, charging with a full-on Tackle directly to the Treecko's chest. Treecko fell over, extremely injured, but lifted itself up one more time.
The Treecko charged at Kzook, hitting it with a scratch attack again. Kzook fell to the ground. I thought it was over, as may started to cheer with joy, but much to our surprise, Kzook lifted himself up with determination in his eyes. He charged at Treecko, dealing one final Tackle attack to it, sending it flying back to May's feet.
- text:
- After defeating May, we headed back to Professor Birch's lab to tell him about the battle. Professor Birch greeted me with a smile, as he told me how May had been helping him with research for a long time. He patted me on the back as he gave me a Pokedex, briefly followed by May giving me some pokeballs, so that I would be able to catch pokemon.

- As I set off for my journey, Mum yelled at me to give me some running shoes. I'm sure they'll come in useful.

- My first capture, right outside LittleRoot Town. She put up a good fight, but I managed to get her with a single ball.
The fight started with Kzook going in straight away, with a Tackle attack. she stepped back, and growled at Kzook, causing his attack to lower. Then, much to our surprise, she healed herself with an Oran Berry! We proceeded to attack her with a mudslap, which dealt some damage and lowered her accuracy, making it harder for her to hit Kzook. She responded, attacking with a Tackle attack, hitting Kzook by surprise.
Kzook attacked her, hitting her with another mud-slap, causing her to be temporarily blinded. She attempted to Growl at Kzook again, but was looking in completely the wrong direction! With this, we knew the stage was set.
Kzook charged at her with a Tackle attack, knocking her over on the floor. She got back up and tried to Tackle, but ran in the wrong direction, hitting a tree. I threw the pokeball and with 1 expert toss, caught her right there on the spot.
Welcome to the team, Starlight.
- text:
- And so I took Starlight back to the route I caught her, in order to train her up a bit. Once there, we encountered a Wurmple. Starlight hastily attacked the bug with a tackle attack, dealing some serious damage. The wurmple responded by fighting back with it's own Tackle attack. This move dealt some serious damage to Starlight, and we knew we'd have to stop it doing such damage.
With haste, I commanded Starlight to use Growl on the enemy, so that it's attack stat would be lowered, making it easier for us to defeat. The beast then retaliated with it's own String Shot, hitting Starlight's legs, causing her movement to be restricted. This did not phase her, however, as she got back up and glared into the eyes of the enemy Wurmple.
With a roar, Starlight charged at Wurmple with another Tackle attack, knocking the Wurmple back a bit. The Wurmple started to get Angry, as it used yet another String Shot on Starlight, causing Starlight to become even more tangled up.
Whilst Starlight was pre-occupied by the strings binding at her feet, the Wurmple charged in, hitting her with a full-force Tackle. Starlight stood up, and let out a cry of courage, She charged at the Wurmple, sending it flying away into the distance.
- text:
- After some good training on Route 101, Starlight managed to get herself up to level 5. Good job, Starlight!
- text:
- My second catch, yet again caught with 1 expertly thrown Pokeball.
As I made my way on to route 103 to admire the scenery there, I saw her, as if she was waiting for me to catch her. We looked at each other, and we both acknowledged the fact that in order to have her on my team, we would have to battle. She got ready as I sent out Kzook, who went straight in with a Tackle attack. She stuttered for a bit, then lifted herself into the air, fighting back with a Water Gun.
Kzook drank the water happily, then Tackled her again. She repeated her previous move of Water Gun, which yet again got drank by Kzook, who was now feeling pretty happy with himself. I then threw the pokeball, hitting her on the head and catching her after 3 shakes.
Welcome to the team, Bubbles.
- text:
- And so, Bubbles had her first battle. She started things off with a Water Gun, dealing serious damage to the enemy Zigzagoon. The Zigzagoon responded quickly, Growling at Bubbles in attempt to lower it's attack stat. However, it will be shocked to find out that Bubbles is a Special Attacker, so it's Growl will be useless!
And so, Bubbles proceeded to attack with another Water Gun, lowering it's health yet again. The Zigzagoon then responded with a Tackle, in an attempt to injure Bubbles.
Bubbles brushed the Tackle off, and used another Water Gun, bringing Zigzagoon down into it's lower health. The Zigzagoon, whimpering around the wilderness, collapsed to the ground. Bubbles has won.
- text:
- And so, Bubbles has made it to level 5 after some tough training on Route 101. Good job, Bubbles!
- text:
- And so, I headed out for Petalburgh. Just after setting out on Route 102, I encountered a boy, who challenged me to a battle. He sent out his Zigzagoon, so I sent out Kzook to set the score. Within 4 Tackles, his Zigzagoon was out of the game.
- text:
- Not much of a fight went on here. I saw it, waiting there, as it attacked me. I sent out kzook with haste, who attacked it with a Tackle. It went flying, and attempted to attack with it's own Tackle, but it missed. Kzook then Tackled it again, and as tears came to it's eyes, it used String Shot. Feeling sorry for the poor creature, I chucked the pokeball, catching it cleanly with one throw.
Welcome to the team, Lawrence.
- text:
- And so, Lawrence wins his first battle, with a mere 2 Tackles on the wild Zigzagoon. It went flying into the distance quite quickly.
- text:
- Something strange happened to Lawrence after he defeated that wild Zigzagoon. At first, I was scared about what was happening, unsure of what to do. But after, I jumped with joy, as I realised that Lawrence was moving up in the world!
Good work, Lawrence.
- text:
- The bug catcher looked at me, glaring. I didn't like his stare, so I engaged him in battle. He started off with his Wurmple. I responded by sending out Kzook, who proceeded to Tackle the enemy Wurmple. The Wurmple proceeded to respond with a string shot. Kzook merely bit the strings off, and attacked with another Tackle, knocking the beast out. The Bug Catcher proceeded to return it to it's ball, glaring at me again. I returned Kzook and sent out Lawrence. They then sent out another Wurmple.
Lawrence stole the first attack, knocking the Wurmple off it's feet with a Tackle. The Wurmple responded with it's own Tackle, which made Lawrence briefly step back a bit.
Lawrence then attacked with another Tackle. The enemy Wurmple then responded with a string shot, which added to the layers on Lawrence's cocoon shell.
Finally, Lawrence attacked again, using Tackle to finish the enemy's Wurmple off.
- text:
- So I finally made it to Petalburgh City. I decided to go and visit my dad in the Gym.
- text:
- After a few minutes talking to my dad, a guy named Wally walks in and asks my dad for a pokemon. My dad gives him a pokeball and tells me to go and make sure he safely catches it. Bit lazy of him, if you ask me.
- text:
- Wally's luck knows no bounds, as he managed to find a Ralts within seconds of stepping on Route 102. I felt a tad jealous and secretly hoped he would faint it, but he managed to catch it with a single ball. I guess it's for the best though, as while I love Ralts, it would have proved extremely difficult to raise at the moment.
- text:
- my 4th catch. Meet Rose.
She approached me, out of the blue, and was caught with 1 pokeball, without even a battle involved! It was clear this was meant to be.
Welcome to the team, Rose.
- text:
- I smiled, as Lawrence began to glow brightly. After the glowing stopped, it popped up, the majestic Pokemon - Beautifly. Great work on leveling up, Lawrence.
- text:
- So I finally got to Petalburgh Forrest, after some intense training. I will use this tree as a milestone- a symbol of determination for the challenges that lie ahead of me on my adventure.
- text:
- My 5th catch, completing my team of pokemon.
I found her waiting in the trees. She tried to jump out and scare me as a prank, not suspecting that I would be ready to catch such a rare pokemon that isn't usually seen in the Hoenn region. I sent out Starlight to start it off, who attacked with a tail whip, lowering it's defence. It retaliated with a psywave, causing some damage to Starlight, who brushed it off. I then called Starlight back and sent in Rose, who Misdreavus tried to hit with hidden power, but missed. I them commanded Rose to use peck on Misdreavus, causing some critical damage. The Misdreavus smirked, clearly enjoying the battle, as it used Psywave again. Rose got back up from the hit, and attacked with another Peck attack, bringing it's health down. It slowly retaliated with another Hidden power. I then threw my pokeball, catching it after 3 shakes.
- text:
- As I was walking through Petalburgh Forrest, I came accross this man who was looking for a Shroomish. Shortly after, some guy who claimed to be from "Team Magma" attacked. He sent out Poochyena and attempted to attack the man. Fearlessly, I sent out Starlight, who attacked the Poochyena with a Tackle. The Poochyena responded with a Sand Attack, which caused some sand to go into Starlight's eyes. This did not phase Starlight, as it attacked the enemy with a Headbutt shortly after. The Poochyena whimpered, as it used Sand-Attack again. Starlight went in to use Tackle again, but missed, knocking a Shroomish out of a nearby tree. The Poochyena attacked Starlight with Tackle. With a last burst of strength, Starlight attacked Poochyena with a Headbutt, knocking it back to its trainer. The mysterious man looked horrified, as he returned his pokemon and fled. As a thank-you, the man who was looking for Shroomish gave me a Great Ball.
- text:
- and so, I find myself standing outside the first gym. I feel the wind blow on my face, as I decide who would be best for this. I look down at Kzook and Bubbles' pokeballs, and prepare to engage into combat with Roxanne, the gym leader.
- text:
- and so, it began. They sent out their Geodude, and I responded by sending out Kzook, who was eager to battle. Kzook's quick feet stole the first move, as it used Water Gun, knocking the Geodude out with 1 hit. Roxanne then sent out her Nosepass. I called Kzook back, and sent in Bubbles to take on the job. Bubbles, like Kzook, stole the first move and hit with a Water Gun, however the enemies Nosepass was hardly phased, as it used rock tomb, almost knocking Bubbles clean out. I switched out Kzook, who was attacked by a Rock Tomb, but due to his quick feet managed to dodge the move. He then used his Water Gun, which hit critical! He proceeded to dodge the opponent's Rock Tomb one more time. Roxanne, noticing the condition, used a potion on her Nosepass, who had some health restored. This did not phase us, as Kzook hit it's health down again with Water Gun. Much to our surprise, Roxanne used another potion on her Nosepass, taking it's health up to full! Kzook charged in there, using a Water Gun on the fiend. It then got up and hit Kzook back with a Tackle. Kzook stood strong, hitting it with another Water Gun. The Nosepass then used rock throw, knocking Kzook back. Kzook went into low health, and I knew I would have to switch him out if I was to keep him alive. He used Water Gun one last time, before I called him back and sent out Lawrence. He attacked Lawrence with a rock throw, knocking him into low health. But Lawrence was determined. Lawrence picked himself up, and attacked Nosepass with poison sting, killing it with that 1 final hit. Accepting defeat, Roxanne gave to me the Stone Badge as proof of my victory.
- text:
- After my victory, I realised that Bubbles was going to need a lot of training in order to keep up to standard with the others. As I thought of different training methods, I watched the 2 strange men I saw earlier in the woods run past. I followed them, curious as to what was going on. After speaking to the guy, I discovered that his items were stolen by the hooded man. I decided that I would help him out as part of Bubbles' training.
- text:
- after walking along for a while, I found myself at a cave. As I went to enter it, The old man told me about how an odd thug had stole his pokemon. I became infuriated - stealing peoples pokemon? That's just sick...
- text:
- after entering the cave I found him - the man who had stolen everyone's pokemon! I charged at him, sending out Kzook. He sent out his Poochyena. Kzook quickly attacked with a water gun, which caused a lot of damage to the Poochyena, who attacked with Sand-Attack in retaliation. Kzook proceeded to attack the Poochyena with a Mud-Slap, knocking it back. It retaliated, hitting Kzook with a Tackle attack. Kzook got up and tried to use it's own Tackle, but missed! This helped him a bit, however, as when the Poochyena attacked, it also missed. Kzook then proceeded to use another Mud-Slap on the fiend, who by now was finding it extremely difficult to hit. It used Howl, raising it's attack stat. Finally, Kzook went in there, finishing the Poochyena off with a Tackle attack.
- text:
- After defeating the grunt, he gave me the items he stole from the Shroomish man, and ran off. Shortly after, the old man came in and was reunited with his pokemon. After briefly thanking me, they went home. I smiled as the 2 went off together, happily.
- text:
- After finding the man who had his goods stolen, I gave him his goods back and got another great ball as a reward. He then took me up to the top of his building, and asked me to deliver a package to Slateport City. The boss of his company then called me over, asking me to go to Dewford Island and seek out "Steven" to give him a letter. After, he gave me a PokeNav. I then departed with the old man I met earlier to Dewford. It sure is a good thing that old man can sail boats.
- text:
- After getting to Dewford, I headed over to Granite Cave for some last-minute training, before I challenged the gym I saw when I arrived. Whilst there, I encountered this pokemon lounging around, bored, with nothing to do. Kzook Rock Tombed it, lowering it's speed, then mud-slapped it several times. I threw 2 pokeballs, both failed. After, I upped my game, throwing a great ball to catch it.
I decided to put Lawrence in the PC, due to his vulnerability at the first gym. Slamigurl will take his place in the team, being the fist of the flock. Rest well, Lawrence. You have done good.
Welcome to the team, Slamigurl.
- text:
- And so here it was, my second gym battle. I took a deep breath, as I got ready for the challenge ahead of me.
- text:
- The battle for the second gym was faster than I expected it to be. I started with Bubbles, in order to prove the results of her training. My opponent sent out a Machop. I stole the first move, with bubbles going straight in with a wing attack. This sent the Machop flying out the room, knocking it out with 1 hit. my opponent called their Machop back and sent out Makuhita. I called Bubbles back and sent in Rose, who had a slight wing injury from training. Rose went into battle with a peck, causing severe damage to the Makuhita. The enemy Makuhita responded with a Bulk-Up, increasing it's attack and it's defence stat. Rose then moved and went in with a Wing Attack, dealing more damage to the Makuhita. The Makuhita once again used Bulk-Up. We knew it was preparing for something big. Rose went in using peck one more time. This sent the Makuhita into low health. The Makuhita attacked back this time, hitting Rose 3 times with Arm Thrust. This sent Rose into low health, due to the effects of Bulk-Up. On the last attack, we went in to use our final Peck, but just before we hit, Brawley used a super potion, restoring Makuhita to full health! After the attack hit, I knew that if Rose was to fight any longer, she would be a goner. I called Rose back and Sent in Bubbles, who was hit by an Arm Thrust. Bubbles glared, as it attacked back, using it's Wing Attack to injur the Makuhita. The Makuhita jumped back. We had the advantage now. We went in to use a Wing Attack again, hitting the Makuhita. But it remained standing! The Makuhita then responded, hitting Bubbles with a Tackle attack. It was clear from the time it took that Makuhita was on low health, however. I gave Bubbles some words of encouragement, as she went in and hit Makuhita with one last Wing Attack, finishing the job. I now had my second gym badge.
- text:
- After defeating Brawley, I went back to Granite Cave to find Steven, in order to give him the letter. On the 3rd area of this cave, I came across a Mawile whilst giving NightFlame a training boost. At first, I was only going to use her as training material, but during the battle the Mawile started crying. My heart beat as I felt sorry for the poor Mawile, and so I threw the pokeball in order to be able to train it and make it happy. (For those of you who query this, each new area within a cave/forest (i.e. going up/down a ladder) counts as a new area. I did check this first.) After catching Jammy, I continued my journey and found Steven examining some rocks at the end of the cave. I gave him the letter, and then continued on my way to Slateport City.
- text:
- When I got to Slateport City, I went straight to the Oceanic Museum to find Captain Stern there. I gave him the package that I was asked to deliver, then shortly after I was attacked by 2 Team Magma grunts! The first one engaged me in combat. The grunt sent out his Numel, and I sent out Kzook. The battle was short - Kzook stole the first move and used Water Gun, killing the Numel in 1 hit. After the zubat was called back, Kzook started to glow. I got overjoyed as Kzook evolved into a Marshtomp!
- text:
- My joy was shortly lived, however, as the second Grunt sent out a Zubat. My Kzook quickly killed the creature with a Rock Tomb, after which it was called back. The grunt then sent in it's Numel. I called Kzook back, and sent out NightFlame to light up the stage. NightFlame moved hastily, killing the Numel with Psywaves whilst it slowly attempted to fight back using Ember.
- text:
- Shortly after the second grunt was defeated, Archie, the leader of Team Magma, came up to see what was taking the grunts so long. He mocked them for losing to a 'kid', and then proceeded to question me as to why I was medling with their plans. I stared at him, silently, as he told me their plans to create more land for humans and pokemon to live on. I didn't believe a word he said. Shortly after they left, Captain Stern left to finish maintenance on a ship he was working on.
- text:
- after heading out of Slateport city, I came across an interesting house. I entered it, and a found a man who challenged me to find him at the back of his house. After venturing through, I found him, and he gave me a Rare Candy as a reward.
- text:
- Starlight's most challenging battle yet.
- text:
- As I headed towards the next city, I stumbled across an old friend. Un-prepared, I entered the battle with a brave face.
- text:
- and so, the battle began. May sent out her Wailmer, and I sent out Slamigurl. Wailmer attacked with a water gun, the Slamigurl responded with a swift Vital Throw. May then switched out her own Poochyena. I switched out NightFlame to take on the new challenge. NightFlame stole the first move, using Hidden Power. It took down the opposition on 1 hit. Finally, may sent out Grovyle. I switched out for Rose, who brought it's health down quickly with a Wing Attack. Much to my surprise, the Grovyle used Absorb, also bringing down Rose's health. Rose was at her limit, and so I switched out for Bubbles. Bubbles also used a Wing Attack, but the grovyle used Absorb, again. Running out of ideas, I did the unexpected. I switched out Starlight, who was hit by Grovyle's Absorb. This didn't phase Starlight, as she got back up and attacked with a Headbutt, knocking the Grovyle out. May proceeded to give me an Itemfinder.
- text:
- On my way to Mauville City, I ran into an Electrike. With 2 pokeballs, I caught him, and added him to my team.
Welcome to the Team, Sparkrun.
-I decided that 2 flying types on my team would be inconvenient, especially with an Electric gym coming up. I decided that due to it's double weakness to electric, I put Bubbles in the PC for it's own safety. Jammy is now on the team and training to get ready.
- text:
- During the training for the upcoming gym battle, Starlight started to glow a pure white. I smiled with excitement as I knew what was happening.
You glowed brightly like Stars, Starlight. Let us win into the future together!
- text:
- Meet Petal, the newest addition to the team. As we were practicing Starlight's Headbutt on tree's just outside of the city, I saw this little one hiding behind a rock, watching. It then jumped out enthusiastically, and attempted to attack Starlight. Starlight dodged and hit it with a Tackle attack. It then proceeded to use absorb. Starlight used another Tackle attack, and it used absorb, as it panted, already weak. I then threw the pokeball, catching it cleanly.
Welcome to the team, Petal.
- text:
- I felt prepared going into this battle, after all the intense training with each of my pokemon leading up to it. Starlight's new power, I hope you prove useful.
- text:
- Watson opened with Magnemite, and I opened with Kzook. His Magnemite was lightning fast, as it stole the first move, attacking with a Sonicboom. Kzook took the hit, and responded with a Mud Shot, killing the pest in 1 hit. I then switched out to Slamigurl as he sent out his Voltorb.
Voltorb attacked first, hitting Slamigurl with a Spark. This didn't phase Slamigurl as she pushed him away with a Vital Throw. The Voltorb rolled back, and used a Sonicboom, hitting Slamigurl critically. Slamigurl refused to give in, and attacked back with an Arm Thrust. I could see she was finding this tough, and so I switched her out for Starlight. Watson used this opportunity to use a Super Potion on his voltorb, who was severely injured.
Starlight's swift feet stole the first move this time, and it's a good thing they did. Starlight charged in with a Headbutt, knocking the Voltorb right back down to the damage it had sustained from Slamigurl in 1 hit. The Voltorb rolled right up to Starlight, and used Selfdestruct! I thought it was all over for Starlight, but to both mine and Watson's surprise, when the smoke cleared, Starlight was still standing! I called her back and switched Kzook back out, Watson switched out his final pokemon, Magneton.
Magneton stole his first attack with Sonicboom, but Kzook remained standing and turned around, knocking it's health down to minimum with a Mud Shot. I thought that Magneton was so weak, that no matter what move, it would be finished. I was naive to think this. As I went in to finish up with Kzook's Water Gun, Watson used a super potion, restoring Magneton to full health! luckily for me, Magneton still took damage from the hit, and thanks to the previous mud shot, Kzook was faster. I gave the command, and Kzook used Mud Shot, finishing the Magneton off in 1 clean hit.
- text:
- With the 3rd battle under the belt, I left Petal and Jammy with the Daycare, so that they could train peacefully, and then I can come back for them any time when I need them.
- text:
- I saw a strange man who spoke to me, giving me an interesting proposal.
- text:
- After defeating the family, they fled into the house, telling me I was welcome any time.
- text:
- I arrived at the Cable Car to find Team Magma blocking the way, and they refused to move or battle. I will have to find an alternative... for now.
- text:
- And so, after a short detour, I found myself at Fallabor town

- So I was wandering around, and look who I find lurking in Meteor Falls! >:O
- text:
- Just after I yelled at Team Magma, Team Aqua came along and introduced themselves, scaring away Team Magma. Something big is going to happen... I can sense it.
- text:
- and so,I followed Team Magma, catching the Cable Car up to the top.
- text:
- I headed up the mountain, running past Team Aqua's leader, who was holding off 3 at one time. He yelled at me, telling me to stop Team Magma.
- text:
- Before going to face Team Magma and foil their plans, I decided to check-up on Petal and Jammy in the Daycare. I took them out, Adding Petal to my team, and Jammy to the PC. I then proceeded to put Lawrence and Slamigurl in. Behave yourselves, you two!
- text:
- I was doing some quick training with Rose to get her ready to fight with Team Magma, and look what happened! I jumped with joy as the thing I waited so long for happened.
- text:
- I felt prepared as I entered this battle. It was one to determine the fate of the Earth. I HAD to win, no matter what.
- text:
- and so we began, Maxie sent out his Mighteyana, I sent out Rose. the first 5 turns were a battle of stat moves, Mighteyana Howling whilst Rose used Double Team to up it's evasion to the max. After that, Rose went straight in with a Wing Attack, blowing the Mighteyana off-guard. Mighteyana scowled as it attempted to Tackle, but missed! This repeated several times, until Mighteyana lay there at Maxie's feet. Maxie called Mighteyana back and sent in Golbat. I knew it was time to show him up good.
I switched Kzook in with Rose. Golbat stole the first move with a Wing Attack, to which Kzook used Rock Tomb, hitting super effective! The Golbat cried as it crawled out and got back up. Kzook now had the faster speed, and went in with another Rock Tomb, finishing the job. Maxie was getting mad, and sent in his ace, Camerupt.
It was time to give flight to a new heroine, as I sent out Bubbles, who stole the first move, attacking with a Water Gun. The Camerupt slowly responded with a Tackle. Bubbles used Water Gun again, knocking it down. It got up, and used a Headbutt, knocking Bubbles back. Bubbles got up, and hit the beast with a Wing Attack, winning the battle.
- text:
- Andso here I was, in Lavaridge town. I decided it best to do some training before I head on to the Gym Battle.
- text:
- Meet Purin, the latest catch. I saw Purin whilst training Rose for the gym battle, and threw the pokeball, catching him cleanly. I decided that it would be best to have Purin on the team instead of Petal, due to Petal being a Grass type, giving her a weakness to Fire type. She resumed her old position in the day care center, with Slamigurl going into the PC.
- text:
- Remembering the letter to Steven earlier in the game, I decided to take the scenic route back to Devon Corp to inform the man that his letter was developed, for a short rest from the constant gym battles. The kind man gave me an EXP share as a reward.
- text:
- During my travel back to Devon Corp, I ran into this cheeky fellow in Meteor Falls. Welcome to the team, Darksun!
- text:
- And so, I take a deep breath, getting ready for my 4th Gym Battle.
- text:
- The battle went quicker than I expected. I opened with Bubbles, Flannery with a Slugma. Bubbles attacked with Water Gun, taking out the critter with 1 hit. Flannery then sent out another Slugma, which was killed in 1 hit of Water Gun again. Flannery then sent out her ace, Torkoal. I used Water Gun, but to my surprise it did very little damage. The Torkoal then used Body Slam. This happened once more, except this time around, it paralyzed Bubbles! I switched Bubbles out for Kzook, who continued with the same attacks that Bubbles used, however like Bubbles, Kzook became paralyzed. I was beginning to run out of ideas, when it occured to me that I had a new hero within my arsenal. I sent out Purin, who took out the Torkoal in 2 Psybeams, winning me the match.
- text:
- As I left for the pokemon center to heal up Bubbles, Kzook and Purin, who were all tired from their battle, I was approached by May who declared me her rival, gave me the Go-Goggles (which would allow me to go through the desert) and left for Petalburgh Gym to challenge my dad. I was finally ready to surpass my father, but then I remembered- I still have the problem of Team Magma. There is some major training to be done before hand.
- text:
- Whilst in the desert, I can across 2 fossils. If I took one, the other would sink. I decided having a fossil may come in useful at a later date, and so I took the Claw Fossil.
- text:
- The training in the desert is rough, with the permanent sandstorm having a damaging effect on my pokemon. However, they embraced it with a brave face, and now it seems as though the harsh training is having a positive effect!
Good work, Bubbles.
- text:
- Meet Spiral! The new happy face for the team. Spiral has been put in the daycare, replacing Petal, who is now in my team to replace Bubbles, as having 2 flying types was just getting inconvenient and since it was part water it's extra weakness was becoming hard to handle. You did well, Bubbles. Enjoy your rest, I may call upon you at a later date.
- text:
- I took a deep breath as I stood outside the gym, preparing myself to take on my father in 1-to-1 combat.
- text:
- And so, here it was, the final moment to show up Dad and teach him who's boss.
- text:
- A heated battle went on with Dad, in which I got to show off every pokemon in my arsenal. I started with Starlight, against his slacking. This is where Starlight's Rock Smash came in most useful, constantly lowering the defence of Slaking, who would not make a move every other move. When Starlight got low on health, I switched her out, sending in Roselia, who hit the beast with a Poison Sting, poisoning it. This left it poisoned as I switched out and sent in Kzook, who spammed it with Mud Bombs, killing it there and then. He then sent out his Vigoroth. I stuck with Mirasi, who killed it with 2 Mud Bombs. Things escalated quickly as he sent out his final Slaking, which almost killed Kzook with it's huge focus punch! Reading the situation, I switched into Rose, who then spammed Double Team, not being hit once by any of the attacks the Slaking threw. At full evasiveness, I knew it was time to turn the tables on dad. I attacked with a flurry of Steel Wings and Wing Attacks until the Slaking was defeated. After the battle, Dad told me that Wally's parents wanted to see me, so I set off to pay them a visit.
- text:
- I travelled around for a bit, smug for my 5th badge, when I came across the old dude from gym 3. He asked me to switch off an overloading generator for him. Lazy bugger.
- text:
- After looking around town, I found this peculiar statue. I wonder what it is?
- text:
- After inspecting the statue, I discovered that it was a Squirtle! I couldn't miss this chance. Welcome to the team, Splashy.
- text:
- After finally finding Wally's Parents, they gave me HM03, Surf! That should come in handy.
- text:
- And so, I travelled to New Mauville to deal with this supposed Generator problem. Can't be that hard.
- text:
- meet Damion, the newest member. He has been placed straight onto the team, due to the nature of the next gym being flying. He replace Rose, who would not be very effective against Flying types. She and Petal are now at the daycare, whilst Spiral has also joined the team, and Lawrence is resting in the PC.
-Welcome to the team, Damion.
- text:
- and so, I switched the generator off, just as the man had asked. Citizen of the year: Mirasi
- text:
- and so I reported back to the old man, informing him. As a thank-you, he gave me a TM. Thanks old man! I then continued on to the next gym.
- text:
- on my way to the next gym, I ran into Steven, who asked me several questions about Pokemon. They made me reflect on my battle style a little.
- text:
- as I went along, I came across these scummy scumbags telling me not to go near the building.
- text:
- Swagger - annoying people since pokemon.
- text:
- And so I free'd the weather place. It started with Damion vs Numel. Damion used Sonicboom, and Numel used Ember. This repeated, except second time around, Damion was left burned! the battle continued like this until Damion was left with 4hp, managing to take down the enemy with that low health. The Magma Admin then switched out a Mighteyana. Kzook started things off with his Mud Shot. Mighteyana then responded by showing of his Swagger. This annoyed Kzook, making him more violent, and leaving him confused. Kzook broke through the confusion, finishing it off with a water gun.
- text:
- Meet Shaperift! This little guy was obtained as a reward for saving the nice people at the weather station from Team Magma.
- text:
- and so, after a bit of training, Damion evolved!
Great job, Damion!
- text:
- After a bit of travelling, May approached me from the rear!
- text:
- And so, me and May engaged in a pokemon battle.
- text:
- quite an easy battle, really. The whole show was stolen by Starlight, who opened against May's Numel. With one hit from Surf, the Numel was down. I kept Starlight out as May sent out her Wailmer. With 1 hit from Thundershock, the beast was sent flying.
May was at her limit. With a deep breath, she sent out her ace, Grovyle. Starlight went in with a Rock Smash, lowering it's health and it's Defence. It responded with a Leaf Blade, which dealt some quite significant damage. Starlight then went in with Cut, lowering it's health to the brink. It used leaf Blade again, hitting Starlight down to it's limit. It was no longer a battle of strength, but a battle of speed. Rushing in, Starlight hit the critter with a final Cut, finishing it off.
- text:
- As I tried to get to the gym, I encountered a slight problem...
- text:
- After walking around for a bit, I found Steven, who used the Devon Scope to reveal that the invisible creatures were actually Pokemon! After I defeated the pokemon, he gave me a Devon Scope as a reward.
- text:
- Meet Terulia, the new addition to the team. I met this one as I was going to collect an Item. She was hiding there, invisible. She has replaced NightFlame on the team due to NightFlame's struggle to keep with the level of the team, and The useful ability to change it's type, which should prove useful.
- text:
- And so, I took a deep breath as I got ready for the 6th gym battle.
- text:
- The battle was mainly dominated by Starlight and Damion. Starlight opened, killing all 3 of her first pokemon with her Thundershocks. She then sent out her Altaria, who was faced by Damion. Damion went in with his Spark, Paralyzing the Altaria. This continued, with Altaria using Wing Attack. Damion got on low health, and so I switched out to Purin. Purin used psywave to lower the altaria, to which the leader used a hyper potion! Purin then beat down Altaria with Psywaves whilst Altaria used Wing Attacks.
- text:
- After defeating the 6th gym, I headed back to pick up Rose from the daycare, putting Terulia in the PC and NightFlame into the daycare. I then taught Rose "Fly", and payed a visit to my mother, who gave me the Amulet coin.
- text:
- And so, with this Kzook finishes his evolutionary stage. This leaves only Spiral and Purin left to complete before the team is fully evolved.
Good work, Kzook.
- text:
- Meet Sleepy. I found this one sleeping on Route 121 blocking my path to the town, and caught it.
- text:
- Well fuck me and call me norris! Whilst traversing the Safari Zone in search of a Pikachu, I ran into not just a Doduo, a shiny Doduo! knowing the chances of finding a shiny Pokemon is normally 1 in 8192, I decided that a shiny Doduo was a much better catch than a Pikachu. He has replaced Rose on the team, to add some variation.
A very special welcome to the team, Glowkeer!
- text:
- After seeing some Team Magma grunts head here earlier, I decided to investigate.
- text:
- Whilst searching for team magma, I ended up battling trainers, and good things happened!
- text:
- After a bit more training, Spiral also managed to evolve! Still no signs of Team Magma, though.
- text:
- After making my way to the top of the mountain, I found Team Magma. I defeated 3 grunts only to discover I was too late! Maxie already had the Blue Orb. The lady gave me the Red Orb and told me to find and stop Maxie.
- text:
- Meet Vixen the Vulpix. I saw her as I was heading down from the mountain to find team Magma. She's so cute! The second I saw her, I had to catch her.
- text:
- And so, I proceeded to go into the Magma Hideout and end their plans.
- text:
- After entering, I found these 2 grunts, who briefly mentioned a submarine. It couldn't be...
- text:
- I rushed back to Slateport city on Glowkeer's back to find Capt. Stern being interviewed about his submarine. I assumed everything was fine.
- text:
- after the interviewers left, Maxie's voice suddenly boomed out of the harbour!
- text:
- I tried to stop Maxie, but I was too late! He escaped, stealing the submarine.
- text:
- And so, I entered their base. Ready, no... Determined to defeat Team Magma.
- text:
- And so, we're at this point in the game... I hope this isn't an electrode, because I need a master ball.
- text:
- so THIS one is the master ball.
- text:
- This guy is in front of the submarine... dang him, stalling for time.
- text:
- I opened with Purin, who took down his Numel with a psybeam. He then switched into mightyena, at which point I switched out Spiral, who took it down with Dragonbreath. Finally, he switched out Camerupt, who faced Starlight. Starlight used Surf. Camerupt lived and used Magnitude. Starlight then used another Surf, killing it.
- text:
- After the battle, Glowkeer evolved!
Good job, Glowkeer.
- text:
- Turns out he was stalling for time... Darn team Magma.
- text:
- the 7th gym... If I plan to stop team Magma, I have to defeat this first.

- We started strong, with Purin and Kzook opening with Shadow Ball and Rock Throw. The battle was looking good, as this combination proceeded to lower their health, with our health slowly lowering. We didn't worry until, just before killing their lunatione, they used a hyper potion! We continued trying to lower until Kzook and Purin were low on health. At this point, we switched into Starlight and Spiral, who managed to beat them down being beat down at the same time. Spiral took down Lunatione with Dragonbreath, leaving just Solrock. With only one left, I switched into Glowkeer and Damion, my only pokemon with no damage. They slowly but surely attack Solrock with a series of attacks, bringing it down and out.
- text:
- After looking around the island, I found Steven who gave me Dive. Team Magma, get ready to be royally screwed >:|
- text:
- Whilst searching underwater, I found a cave. I decided to go inside.
- text:
- Once inside the cave, I found a submarine. I knew what this meant... I immediately head up to search.
- text:
- After getting through several of Team Magma's grunts and an admin, I found Groudon. Maxie approached me.
- text:
- After approaching me, Maxie challenged me to a battle.
- text:
- I started off with Kzook against his Mightyena. Kzook's Dive hit it low, and then Maxie used a super potion. Kzook continued to use a Mud Shot to finish it off. Next was his Crobat. I sent out Purin, who hit it with Psychic, finishig it in 1 clean hit. Finally, he sent out his Camerupt. Spiral took the stage and used Earthquake, to which Camerupt also tried to use earthquake, but Spiral simply flew and avoided. Maxie then used a super potion before Spiral used Earthquake, finishing it off.
- text:
- After the battle, Maxie's blue orb glowed, awakening Groudon. The pokemon disappeared from sight.
- text:
- Team Aqua came along and took us outside. It was so bright! what had happened? It turns out this was the effect of Groudon. Maxie realised he'd made a terrible mistake in awakening Groudon.
- text:
- After Team Aqua left, Steven came along and asked what happened. He told me the source was a city to the west of this place, and flew off to investigate.
- text:
- I headed to the Cave of Origin, and found Groudon at the end. All of a sudden, the Red Orb glowed!
- text:
- Groudon engaged me in battle. It was up to me to save the world.
- text:
- I started with Kzook, who hit it with Mud Shot, lowering it's speed. It then used Bulk up. Kzook then used Dive several times, whilst it continued to use Bulk Up. all of a sudden, Groudon used Earthquake, almost knocking Kzook out! I switched into Starlight, to which Groudon used Bulk up. Starlight then used Surf, whilst Groudon used... Bulk Up. Seeing the opportunity to add a powerful pokemon to my arsenal, I threw the Ultra ball, catching Groudon.
- text:
- And so, meet Burnout. You already know the story of how I met this one. It was time to face the final gym, but I had 1 problem- I need to train. Kzook was already struggling to face off against Burnout, who he had type advantage against. We will have to do some serious training before we face the 8th gym. But after that, it's on to the elite 4.
--more to come--
for anyone interested, I did a pokeboard.
